The City of Seattle presented its first SeaGreen Award for sustainable affordable housing to Traugott Terrace, a new 50-unit Belltown apartment building for low-income residents. Traugott Terrace used many green-building practices to become the first affordable housing project in the United States to receive Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Rafn Co. exceeded community expectations by pursuing LEED certification for the Traugott Terrace project in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood. The project was designed to the standards of the Seattle City Light Built Smart program, and more sustainable strategies were developed when funds from the city's LEED Pilot Incentive Program became available. Rafn used energy-saving strategies and value engineering to deliver a cost-effective, sustainable product that was completed with minimal disturbance to the surrounding urban community. View Website
