BLESSED KATERI VILLAGE

Proud residents of Blessed Kateri Village
Project Description:

Blessed Kateri Village consists of five residential buildings and one community building, intersperced with play and garden areas on an approximately 5 acre site.  The community building houses a computer lab, office area, kitchen and great room for community gatherings, as well as an ample outdoor patio.  A large public park abuts the property to the south, and the site is within walking distance of schools, religious facilities, grocery stores and banks. The residential buildings are arranged around the community center.  Wherever possible, the apartment kitchens have been oriented so that their windows overlook this common area, allowing an adult cooking or doing other chores in the kitchen to monitor the activites of children in the yard.

Population/Residents Served:

Agricultural worker households with incomes at 40% and 50% of area median income.

Out of Reach Report:
The National Low Income Housing Coalition released the 2011 Out of Reach report.  This annual report  calculates the Housing Wage: the amount a person working full-time must earn to afford the Fair Market Rent on a modest two-bedroom unit. Out of Reach also calculates the number of hours one must work at the minimum wage and the average renter wage in order to afford typical rents. The Housing Wage for Washington State is $19.10 - while the typical renter wage is just $13.96.  As this report details, housing is out of each for many in our state.  To read the full report, click here.
