The Bunkhouse
Transitional housing for 60 formerly homeless men and women in Seattle, WA.
Transitional Housing in Seattle, WA by Beacon Development Group

Project Description:
The Bunkhouse is comprised of 24 bedrooms, each approximately 10 x 18 feet with a private toilet room and sink. A shower room is located on each floor. Other common spaces include a kitchen, laundry room, lounge with computer equipment, lobby, and tenant storage lockers. Operating on two 12-hour day and night shifts, residents share the bunkrooms, two on each shift, except handicapped rooms which house one person on each shift. Residents have 24-hour access to common areas and to their personal storage lockers. Goals in designing the new Bunkhouse were to create 24-hour shelter access, enhance common space uses, and maximize the building’s adaptability for potential future use as an independent SRO housing facility.

Residents Served: The Bunkhouse provides transitional housing for up to 60 single, formerly homeless, men and women who are working. In order to save their earnings for permanent housing, residents work approximately 4 hours per week managing the Bunkhouse in lieu of rent.
