The Dorothy Day House is a turn of the century mixed use building formerly know as the Douglas Hotel. It has been restored to its original storefront appearance, and the residential floors have been substantially renovated to create 24 units of single room occupancy (SRO). An addition, new construction on the north side of the existing building, provides an additional 17 units of SRO housing and additional retail space. The residential floors include common areas, four staff offices, three kitchens, five tub/shower rooms, laundry, storage, and meeting rooms.
The Dorothy Day House provides 41 units of permanent SRO housing for homeless women who have been living in the shelter system for more than one year. The residence staff provides case management and refers residents to off-site services such as healthcare, mental health counseling, education, job training, and senior services. Residents have a retail space for the development of a small business enterprise. Rents are affordable to persons at 15% of the area median income. |
