Kateri Court
Kateri Court, designed to sustainable standards, is a mixed-use development in downtown Bellingham that serves households at 30% and 50% of median income and acutely needed homeless housing.

Sustainable new apartments by Beacon Development Group

Project Description: A vacant lot in the core of downtown Bellingham, WA, became the site of this sustainably designed building that provides 40 units of studio and one-bedroom apartments for households earning 30% and 50% of the area’s median income. The building includes four floors of wood framed residential housing above two floors of concrete construction that include commercial space, a manager’s office, the apartment lobby, and parking. The project’s sustainable features include the clean up and development of a contaminated urban site, the use of high efficiency plumbing, lighting, and heating systems, the use of locally produced and recycled construction materials, and provision of a quality indoor environment through the use of low volatile organic compounds in paints, sealants, and carpeting.

Residents Served: The project’s 40 studio and one-bedroom units of low income housing include eight units that are set aside for disabled tenants and eight units for families transitioning out of homelessness. The Opportunity Council provides comprehensive case management services for the tenants transitioning out of homelessness. The on-site manager provides all tenants with referrals to services and helps tenants access these resources in the community.
