Katharine's Place, a multi-family housing development, consists of 26 units of new construction in Southeast Seattle: 10 units of homeless/transitional housing, 15 units of permanent low-income housing and one resident manager’s unit. The new Sound Transit light rail line will run near the project and provide residents with easy access to public transportation. The project incorporated many sustainable features via its participation in The City of Seattle’s Built Smart program and the Master Builders Association’s Built Green program. In March 2005 it won the Built Green Competition in the Multi-Family Housing Category (over 20 units) with an award of $10,000. The building will consist of 10 units of transitional housing to serve homeless families with incomes up to 30% of AMI and 15 units of permanent housing to serve families with incomes up to 50% AMI. Of the 10 transitional units, 5 will be set aside for families living with HIV/AIDS. Of the 15 permanent units, 5 will be restricted to families with income at or below 30% AMI. One additional unit will be reserved for a resident manager.
